Selectmen approve camper dwelling during construction and a weekend rodeo at Sandwich Fairgrounds

At its April 20 meeting the Sandwich Board of Selectmen unanimously approved two temporary-use requests: a request allowing a camper to be used as a dwelling during construction of a new home (Map 208 Lot 8) and a request by local event representatives to host a two-day professional rodeo at the Sandwich Fairgrounds July 17–18.
The camper request came from an applicant identified as Mr. Meredith, who said septic and water needs will be provided by a local vendor and that construction is expected to finish by the end of October. The Board amended the request to include an additional six-month extension allowed by zoning to accommodate unanticipated delays and approved the request as amended.
Representatives Scott Crowder and Ben Long introduced the rodeo request and described logistics and public-safety planning. Crowder said the rodeo company he plans to contract with is accredited at "the highest standard" and that accreditation requires a veterinarian on site during the events. The applicants told the Board they will consult further with the Police and Fire chiefs to minimize traffic and safety impacts. They said gates would open around 2:00 PM and events would conclude by 10:00 PM to comply with the town's noise ordinance, and Crowder said he would seek a liquor commission permit through a partnership with the Common Man to allow alcohol in designated areas.
The Board thanked the applicants and approved the temporary-use request for the fairgrounds with no recorded opposition. Board members asked staff to continue coordination with the Police and Fire departments on safety and traffic-control plans ahead of the July event.
