Lawrence board approves $59,300 United Consulting task order to evaluate GLICS Subdivision storm sewers

The Lawrence City Stormwater Advisory Board approved a $59,300 task order for United Consulting to evaluate, clean and map the storm sewer system in the GLICS Subdivision ahead of planned street and utilities work this fall.
Renee Rafla, director of public works, said United Consulting will provide a storm system evaluation and GIS data to support coordinated construction with Lawrence Utilities and the city's street program. "United Consulting ... is going to evaluate the storm sewer system in this neighborhood and clean it and provide GIS data," Rafla said. She added the work aims to allow the city to combine storm, water, sanitary and street projects to limit disruptions and extend the life of the neighborhood pavement.
Rafla said the GLICS Subdivision was selected based on PASER ratings — she cited streets in very poor condition (PASER 2) and standing drainage problems near 46th Street — and because Lawrence Utilities is already undertaking an inflow-and-infiltration (I&I) sanitary project in the same area.
On funding, Rafla said the city received nearly $1 million from a Community Crossing (CCMG) grant and is matching approximately $1 million for road construction; she described the stormwater task order as complementary to the larger rehabilitation but funded separately. Rafla also said she expects a draft of the city's master plan in August and noted the neighborhood ranks high on the priority list.
A board member moved to approve the United Consulting task order; the motion was seconded, members voted in favor, and the chair declared the motion unanimous. The board adjourned afterward.
