Pamlico County Board honors two longtime members at Nov. 4 meeting

The Pamlico County Board of Education opened its Nov. 4 meeting by adopting resolutions honoring two outgoing board members for long service.
Board chair Prescott read a resolution recognizing Gene Dudley for 12 years on the board, including service as vice chair from January 2014 through December 2023. The board presented Dudley with a certified copy of the resolution and offered thanks for his service to the district and community.
Prescott then read a similar resolution honoring John McCotter III for 28 years of service to the board dating to 1996. The resolution was ordered spread upon the minutes and will be presented to McCotter.
The board also recognized the Rotary Students of the Month from Pamlico County Middle and High schools — Aronza Beltran Lopez and Catherine Lackick — and noted a nomination for Bertha Sessie Spivey as Pamlico County Schools’ 2025 beginning‑teacher of the year. Speakers described the students’ academic and extracurricular achievements and the teacher nominee’s classroom work.
The board recessed brief remarks with congratulations and proceeded to regular business.
