Board endorses joint committee recommendation to seek $45 million for Alta Vista renovation

Dr. Stanley reported on the joint board–supervisors committee and recommended the board support a construction-management procurement approach for an Alta Vista renovation.
"We landed on asking the supervisors to borrow $45,000,000," Dr. Stanley said, explaining that the larger amount would allow the project to address mechanical, electrical and plumbing work plus meaningful alternates identified in the feasibility study. He said the committee would retain the architect from the feasibility study and then solicit qualifications from construction managers.
Board members discussed procurement options (design-bid-build, PPEA, construction management) and indicated the chosen approach would allow greater control of scope and leave room for security and other priorities. The motion to consider the recommendation was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; Dr. Stanley said he would submit required construction-plan paperwork to the supervisors should they approve the borrowing at their July 21 meeting.
A board member noted missing a grant deadline for construction and Dr. Stanley confirmed the district would apply only after supervisor approval.
