School board approves application for up-to $970,000-per-year SAMHSA mental-health grant

He said Campbell County is federally designated as a mental-health shortage area and the funding could improve access and help overcome transportation barriers.
Board members asked clarifying questions about grant continuity and matching requirements; Dr. Hale said awards are typically renewed annually but are dependent on the federal budget. A board member moved to apply for the grant, a second was recorded, and the motion carried by voice vote.
Because the grant is highly competitive (he said only seven localities nationally might receive awards), Dr. Hale said the district would continue preparing and coordinating with Harvest Outreach and would update the board on progress.
