PELLETIER — The town's code enforcement officer reported that he issued a citation to a private racetrack after multiple resident complaints about excessive noise and operations outside the days allowed by local ordinance.
"It's $500 a minute according to our ordinance," Lt. Chris Jensen said, describing that he recorded short video clips and used them to draft a citation he handed to an associate of the operator and mailed to the owner.
Jensen told the board he has tried to contact the property owners directly: he left two notes, attempted phone calls and mailed a certified letter that was returned undelivered. He said the operator told him the matter was now in the hands of counsel.
The code officer also updated the board on property compliance elsewhere in town: a new trailer at Buck's Corner, accumulated materials at 1105 Highway 58 that Jensen said will require landscaping attention this spring, and cleanup progress at 169 Bucks Corner Road after the owner was warned that zoning approval could be withheld until the property was brought into compliance.
Jensen offered to prepare a prioritized list of about 10 properties for possible town-funded abatement and requested direction from the board. "I can make a list, pictures, and then present it to you with my next report," he said.
During public comment, a resident urged the town to follow through with a previously voted speed-limit change on West Fire Tower Road and Pelletier Loop, saying DOT staff advised the town must submit minutes or a resolution to trigger state action. The resident said DOT contact James Evans had been responsive and urged the town to act promptly because "there are children on that road."
No formal enforcement totals or fine totals were recorded on the record at the meeting; Jensen said his citation calculation used language from the town ordinance and that he included the ordinance text with the citation. The board signaled interest in moving forward with Jensen's proposed abatement list and asked him to return with that report next month.
The board also acknowledged repeated resident complaints about noise from the track and encouraged residents to file police reports when incidents occur so enforcement staff can document patterns.
