The Peletier Town Board accepted Commissioner Steven Overbey’s resignation and set a process for filling the vacancy at its meeting.
Mayor Dale Sowers told the board the resignation would be processed immediately and explained the timeline: “Next month's meeting, the commissioners can nominate whoever they like, and then we'll vote on who to replace them,” he said. The board voted by voice to accept the resignation and to allow nominations at the next regular meeting.
Commissioners also discussed giving candidates a chance to speak and permitting public comment after candidates make remarks. A motion to hold candidate remarks and a public comment period at the next monthly meeting passed on a voice vote; the board will receive nominations, hear from candidates, take public comment and then vote to fill the vacancy.
The board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; votes were taken by verbal 'aye' and 'no.' The town scheduled the next meeting for Monday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m., when nominations and the appointment vote are expected to take place.
