Board directs creation of a special fishing-tournament permit and approves temporary-event permits in bulk

During its June 3 meeting the Wolfeboro Board of Selectmen discussed and approved multiple temporary event permits and directed staff to create a distinct fishing-tournament permit. Select Board member Linda Murray raised that many bass tournaments are not open to the general public and therefore do not match the current temporary-event permit category; members agreed drafting a specialized fishing-permit form—modeled on examples from neighboring towns—would provide clarity and fairness.
The board formally moved to create a special permit for fishing tournaments that the board will design, seconded by another member. After that directive, the board approved the bulk vote for agenda items A–F, which included the temporary event permits, manifest approval, and associated refunds and abatements; the bulk vote passed unanimously.
Board members said the change aims to ensure consistent oversight of events that are competitive or invite-only and to make sure the town knows when such events are taking place. Staff will draft a fishing-tournament permit for consideration at a future meeting.
