Bryan City Council approves three-year dispatchers contract, accepts donation and authorizes civil service test

The Bryan City Council on July 16 voted unanimously to approve a three-year collective bargaining agreement between the City of Bryan and the International Union of Police Associations covering dispatchers, accepted a $1,561.42 donation for the Fire Department and authorized staff to re-administer a civil service exam for police patrol vacancies.
The ordinance approving the dispatchers contract took effect April 1 and runs through Dec. 31, 2028, the presenter told the council. Key provisions cited by the presenter include a general wage increase of 4% in 2026, 4% in 2027 and 3% in 2028; additional educational incentive pay for associates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees; a 5% premium for dispatchers who serve as training officers; additional compensation for employees designated TAC officer and assistant TAC officer; and an increase in the annual uniform allowance up to $500. The council moved and seconded suspension of the rules and then voted to approve the ordinance.
Council members also approved Resolution No. 332026 to accept a $1,561.42 donation from Rudy’s, collected through a community fundraiser and match, for the Bryan Fire Department. The presenter said the funds will be used to purchase rescue equipment and asked that the council accept the donation so it could be deposited.
On staffing, an agency official requested permission to administer the civil service test again through the NTN system after the last exam concluded May 31. The official said two of the three qualified applicants from that exam had taken positions elsewhere; staff will carry one eligible name forward and expects three upcoming patrol openings by the end of the month. Council members approved the request.
All three items were moved, seconded and approved in roll-call votes; the meeting record shows affirmative votes from the council. The council then heard community announcements and adjourned.
The ordinance (dispatchers CBA), resolution (fire donation) and authorization to re-run the civil service test were the primary formal actions recorded at the July 16 meeting; no additional amendments or conditions were announced at the time.
