Mount Rainier council approves FY2026 meeting calendar, July–August recess and three sets of minutes

The Mount Rainier mayor and council voted June 3 to adopt the FY2026 legislative meeting calendar and to go into the customary July–August recess.
Councilmember Danielle asked whether meetings will be virtual or in person; Mr. Kamali said City Hall construction is expected to finish in late June with county final walkthroughs in July, and that in-person meetings may resume in August or September. Council agreed to keep the calendar’s in-person/virtual designation "to be determined" so dates can be changed without invoking a formal code amendment.
The council also considered a proposed amendment to the May 12 minutes that would have removed contractor names to protect resident privacy. Councilmember Joseph explained privacy concerns and then withdrew the amendment after consulting with others; the mayor noted that minutes typically include an address or identifying detail but that staff would clarify presentation in future minutes. The council then voted to approve minutes for April 15, May 6 and May 12 unanimously.
Finally, the council voted to recess for July and August 2025 while reserving the right to call emergency meetings if needed.
