At the June 3 meeting the Mount Rainier mayor and council unanimously adopted Resolution 02-2025, elevating April as Arab American Heritage Month.
Councilmember Valerie read the full resolution on second reading and councilmembers suggested minor typographical fixes (capitalization and punctuation) before signature. Councilmember Joseph offered small editorial notes and the administration said it would correct them prior to finalizing the document; the council then approved the resolution by unanimous consent.
Earlier in the meeting Valerie also read Resolution 11-2020, the city’s prior resolution designating June as LGBTQ Pride Month and directing the rainbow flag be flown at City Hall each June; the reading was framed as a reaffirmation of the city’s long-standing support for LGBTQ residents.
The council also held a first reading of a draft resolution to proclaim May as Jewish American Heritage Month; members flagged grammatical edits and agreed to return that item for a subsequent vote after revisions.
The items are ceremonial proclamations and administrative resolutions; the Arab American Heritage Month resolution moved from a prior proclamation to an official resolution and was adopted on second reading during this meeting.
