Tunica names Keith Smith police chief, hires patrol officer and approves staff pay raise

Mayor Andrew T. Dulaney and the Tunica Board of Aldermen on March 3 unanimously approved multiple personnel actions for the police and water/sewer departments after meeting in executive session under Section 25-41-7 of the Mississippi Code.
The Board appointed Keith Smith, who has worked for the Town for approximately 15 years and had been serving as interim chief, as Chief of Police. Alderman Adam Fullilove moved to appoint Smith; Alderman Valerie Hartsfield seconded the motion, and the measure passed unanimously.
The Board also approved a pay increase for water/sewer employee Tamarcus Funches, who the minutes show has been with the Town about 18 months. Funches’ hourly rate was increased from $14.00 to $15.50, effective immediately; the motion was made by Alderman Rebecca P. Fyfe and seconded by Alderman Adam Fullilove and carried unanimously.
Separately, the Board hired Ricky Ray, described in the minutes as a certified officer formerly with the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department, as a full-time patrol officer at $20.00 per hour. Chief Smith reported having interviewed Ray; Alderman Fullilove moved to hire him, Alderman Hartsfield seconded, and the Board voted unanimously to approve the hire.
All of the personnel decisions were announced by Mayor Dulaney after the Board returned to open session.
Next steps: the minutes record these as formal appointments and hires; no additional conditions or start dates beyond the salary effective date for Funches were specified in the minutes.
