Tunica aldermen praise storm response, approve January claims and travel request

Tunica — The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Feb. 3, 2026, in the Municipal Complex and unanimously approved minutes from Jan. 20, 2025 and the town’s January claims. Both motions passed on unanimous votes of the aldermen present.
Interim Police Chief Keith Smith briefed the Board on police operations during a recent ice storm. "There were no accidents in Tunica as a result of the ice storm," Smith said, and he added officers assisted multiple individuals who were struck in the ice. The Board thanked Smith for the report.
Public Works Supervisor Reggie Griffin provided the Board with an update on the department’s operational response and cleanup after the storm. No formal action was requested or taken on the report; Griffin was thanked for his work.
The Board also noted Tunica Main Street representative Ms. Withers was unable to attend and will present an update at the next meeting about Main Street matters including River Gate. The clerk informed the Board that proposed water adjustments are not ready for consideration and will be taken up at the Feb. 17, 2026 meeting.
The Board approved a travel request for Christy Young to attend the Municipal Court Clerk’s Association summer conference, July 1–2, 2026, in Biloxi (Golden Nugget). Alderman Valerie Hartsfield moved to approve the travel and, to the extent requested, a travel advance as authorized by law; Alderman Lee B. Turner seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Andrew T. Dulaney gave a brief overview of ongoing Town projects and the municipal response to the winter weather; no further action was taken on those updates. With no further business, the Board adjourned.
