Leon County recognizes neighborhoods and Legal Services of North Florida at July ceremony

The Leon County Board of County Commissioners opened the meeting with a proclamation honoring Legal Services of North Florida on its 50th anniversary and presented the county’s 2026 Neighborhood Recognition awards.
Commissioner Cummings introduced Leslie Perot, executive director of Legal Services of North Florida, who accepted the proclamation and recognized long‑time staff and volunteers. Perot noted the organization’s expansion from a single Tallahassee office to serving 16 counties across the Florida Panhandle and thanked the commission for years of partnership on housing stability and disaster response.
The board also presented neighborhood awards: Avondale Neighborhood Association (small neighborhood of the year), Griffin Heights Neighborhood Association (large neighborhood of the year), Highgrove Homeowners Association (unincorporated neighborhood) and neighbor of the year Michelle Olsen of Lafayette Oaks. Representatives from several winning neighborhoods offered brief remarks about community service and beautification efforts.
The commission invited awardees to pose for a group photograph and thanked Kona and other partners for their support of the recognition program.
