The Thomasville City Council placed a rezoning request (Z-24-05) on its May 20 public hearing docket. The application, filed by owner Maria Contreras for the property at 428 Triad Blvd (PIN 6788-02-78-2102), seeks conditional rezoning from C‑2 Highway Commercial to CZ‑M‑2 Heavy Industrial to be used exclusively as a garage for semi‑trucks, trailers, parking and a small office.
Minutes note the Board of Planning & Adjustment held a public hearing on March 30, 2024 and voted 7–0 to approve the conditional rezoning. The board’s stated reasons were that the proposed conditional use would be acceptable for the property without conflicting with neighboring properties, that conditioning the parcel by excluding other uses would further protect neighbors, and that the rezoning is consistent with surrounding properties and the Comprehensive Plan. For Council to pass the rezoning, minutes record it must find the zoning amendment reasonable and in the public’s interest on those grounds.
No council action on the rezoning was taken at the May 13 briefing; the formal public hearing is scheduled for the May 20 meeting where members of the public may comment and the council will decide whether to approve the rezoning request.
