Haysi police, rescue squad report call volumes; rescue squad seeks grant for truck work

Police Chief James Stanley reported the Police Department handled 16 calls in March, including three traffic stops, an assist to a motorist and a motor-vehicle collision involving a school bus on Road Branch. Chief Stanley said he worked 119 hours and drove 769 miles during the reporting period, and he commended Adam Barton for assistance with flood cleanup.
Mayor Larry D. Yates said he is attempting to schedule a meeting with the Haysi Volunteer Fire Department chief to follow up on department needs. Captain Terry Bartley of the Haysi Rescue Squad thanked Adam Barton for help on a lift-assist call and thanked the town for financial assistance with the squad’s electric bill. Bartley said the rescue squad has run 155 calls so far this year and has applied for a grant to re-chassis one of its trucks and to procure a new cot.
