Haysi council renews line of credit at 4.6% and hears public safety reports

Mayor Larry D. During the meeting Chief James Stanley delivered the Police Department's monthly report, saying the department handled 11 calls in April and made three traffic stops that resulted in verbal warnings. Chief Stanley reported he worked 114 hours and drove 1,055 miles during the reporting period and noted assisting the Haysi Rescue Squad on at least one call.
Captain Terry Bartley reported the Haysi Rescue Squad has responded to 221 calls so far this year and said there were three uses of Narcan in the previous month. Bartley said the squad has five new members—one completing an EMT course and another interested in training—and requested help moving a county-owned side-by-side; Mayor Yates said the town's ATV was available for short-term use.
Mayor Yates said he had spoken with the Haysi Volunteer Fire Department about using a county audit rather than a town audit, citing dissatisfaction with the department's record keeping. Council discussed auditing options; no formal motion regarding the fire department audit was recorded.
