Haysi police chief reports 17 calls in December, describes new radios and use of Flock Camera system

Chief James Stanley presented the police department’s monthly report, saying the department handled 17 calls in December, including a traffic stop and several breaking-and-entering and vandalism incidents.
Chief Stanley said the department has new radios that "are functioning better now." When Council Member Carter Branham asked whether the radios were like the star system, Stanley said they were not, explaining the new system includes vehicle boosters and repeaters to improve communications.
Stanley said he used the Flock Camera system to research and identify the vehicle that hit a lamp post in town and was able to notify the driver. He explained that a tag number can be researched using the network of Flock Cameras in operation. He also reported a radio that had been reported missing from the Haysi Rescue Squad reappeared during his investigation. The chief said the department has received only one quote so far for a camera grant.
Council members asked follow-up questions about the breaking-and-entering reports and the radio system; no formal action or funding vote on equipment or cameras was taken at the meeting.
