Haysi council conditionally approves $1,000 for Dickenson County Fair

Donna Fields, representing the Dickenson County Fair Association, asked the Haysi Town Council on April 1 for municipal support for the association’s Kids Day, saying the event will be held at the same time as last year and that the committee is still finalizing details. Council members discussed planned attractions — including a horse show, a truck pull, possible wrestling, rides (possibly two more than last year), an entertainment lineup that will try to include programming for veterans, and a returning slate of food trucks.
Council Member Debbie Wood praised the fair committee’s fundraising and Mayor Larry D. Yates complimented the association’s new logo. Billy Branham described some of the likely events and rides the committee expects to include, and Fields read the acts they had secured and noted efforts to incorporate veterans programming.
Council Member Carter Branham moved to appropriate one thousand dollars to the Dickenson County Fair line item in the upcoming 2025–2026 budget “if possible”; Council Member Debbie Wood seconded the motion. Vice Mayor Michael Harris supported the motion. Let the record show the motion passed unanimously by verbal vote. The appropriation is contingent on inclusion in the town’s forthcoming 2025–2026 budget.
