Council approves election order, grant acceptance, event variance, road bid solicitation and property sale

At its July 14 meeting the Mission City Council unanimously approved a resolution ordering a Nov. 3, 2026 general election, accepted a $250,000 Texas General Land Office Resilient Communities grant for comprehensive‑plan work, granted a fireworks variance for the Pony International Softball World Series, authorized solicitation of bids for Horner Road, approved the sale of 1400 West Ray Circle after executive session, and carried routine consent items.
The Mission City Council voted unanimously on several procedural and authorization items at its Tuesday meeting.
Election order: The council approved Resolution No. 2068, ordering a general election for Nov. 3, 2026, to elect the mayor and council members for Places 1 and 3. Filing for candidates will begin July 20 and run through Aug. 17.
GLO grant acceptance: The council accepted a $250,000 award from the Texas General Land Office’s Resilient Communities Program to support an updated comprehensive plan that will address hazard risks, population projections, housing, infrastructure (water, wastewater, drainage, streets), economic development and zoning. Staff said the grant carries no local match requirement.
Event variance: The council granted a variance to Ordinance No. 2,198 to permit a fireworks display on July 15, 2026 at Richard Thompson Stadium as part of the Pony International Softball World Series; the event will be supervised by the Mission Fire Department.
Streets project: Council authorized solicitation of bids for about 1,100 feet of Horner Road extension; staff said funding will come from Mission Redevelopment Authority tax-increment contract revenue bond series 2026.
Property sale: After an executive session under Texas Government Code Sec. 551.072 (deliberations regarding real property), the council reconvened and voted to proceed with the sale of 1400 West Ray Circle as discussed in executive session.
Consent items and departmental reports were also approved by unanimous voice vote.
