The Herndon Architectural Review Board on June 17 approved an application to install a new clear‑anodized aluminum storefront, rooftop units and an exterior accessibility ramp at 259 Sunset Park Drive in the Sunset Business Park.
Ms. Jones, the town’s lead planner, told the board that the one‑story commercial building faces rusticated concrete masonry units and that the applicant’s proposed static storefront and replacement primary entrance align with the town’s transit‑related growth plan. "Staff are recommending approval in accordance with the conditioned draft resolution provided with the meeting materials," she said.
Vice Chair Feske read a disclosure and recused herself from the matter, saying she serves on the condo association board for the adjacent unit and therefore cannot "participate in the transaction fairly objectively and in the public interest." Aubrey Skinner, the applicant’s general contractor, spoke for the applicant and said he had no objections to staff’s presentation. "Everything sounded great and I appreciate your due diligence on it," Skinner said.
A board member moved to approve the resolution authorizing the storefront and minor site improvements, citing Fairfax County tax map 016210259 for the property. The motion was seconded and passed by roll call with four ayes.
The chair noted that anyone wishing to appeal the ARB decision may take the matter to the town council within 14 days. The board closed the public hearing before taking the vote.
