Polk County board adopts FY2024–25 budget estimate and approves teacher supplement plan

Miss Debbie Leffels presented the district’s 2024–25 budget resolution as a working document, outlining state revenue estimates and proceeds that will be adjusted as the district receives official allotments.
Leffels told the board state revenues were being estimated at around $20,279,762 and outlined federal, local and grant components that remain in flux pending state and federal notifications. “This is our beginning point,” she said, adding that a number of awards and PRCs had not yet been received and the budget will be updated as revenues are finalized.
Separately, administration presented a proposed local teacher supplement structure similar to prior years: a graduated supplement tied to experience tiers and a planned spring appreciation/retention bonus later in the year. The presentation noted the local supplement helps maintain maintenance‑of‑effort commitments required by the state and that final spring payments would be set after auditing and potential discussions with county commissioners.
Board members moved to approve the estimated budget settlement for fiscal year 2024–25 and to accept the teacher supplement proposal for processing so payments can be timed before the Thanksgiving break. One board member abstained from the budget motion, saying they had not reviewed the materials; the motion otherwise carried.
District leaders emphasized the numbers are estimates and will be updated as official allotments and audit results are received.
