Nash County reauthorizes $1.75 million in opioid settlement spending through 2028

The Nash County Board of Commissioners on July 13 approved a resolution to continue spending $1,750,000 in opioid settlement funds through June 30, 2028, maintaining previously approved Option A priorities and funding levels.
Staff summarized the resolution and the allocations: $300,000 for naloxone distribution; $200,000 for recovery support services; $400,000 for a post-overdose response team; $50,000 for collaborative strategic planning; $400,000 for recovery housing support; and $400,000 for reentry programs. The staff presenter emphasized this action does not create new strategies but extends the authorization so implementation may continue.
"This resolution does not establish any new spending priorities or authorize new strategies. Rather, it continues the board's previously approved Option A opioid settlement strategies and extends the authorization period," staff said.
Why it matters: The funding continues county-supported prevention, treatment and recovery services tied to opioid settlement proceeds. Staff noted unused funds will remain in the opioid settlement special revenue fund.
Next steps: Implementation of the funded initiatives will proceed under existing program arrangements and oversight; staff will continue to report on use of funds and return any unspent dollars to the opioid settlement fund at the end of the authorization period.
