Nash County approves engineering contracts and project budget actions for sewer, water and emergency services projects

The board also awarded engineering services for a roughly 1,100-foot water main extension to serve two outparcels at the Middlesex Corporate Center and authorized the county manager to execute a contract with The Wootton Company. Commissioners questioned the estimated engineering fee (noting the percentage appeared high on a small project) and staff explained that smaller projects often show higher engineering fees as a percentage of construction cost because of fixed overhead and limited economies of scale.
Separately, the board approved a master services agreement and Task Order 1 with Stocks Engineering (corrected in the packet from $49,300 to $39,300) to perform site civil design for an emergency services warehouse adjacent to Nash Community College and authorized the manager to execute the documents.
Staff also presented an amendment to attach final expenditures to the grant project budget ordinance for Middlesex Corporate Center Phase 2 (sewer, road and electric). The amendment reallocates remaining funds to extend water service to an additional parcel and reflects that grant funds have been expended and reimbursed. The board approved the amendment.
