Sheriff’s lieutenant flags meth, vapes and mental-health needs; farmer’s market outlines seasonal schedule

Lieutenant Todd Perkins of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office briefed the council on the Grayson County Crime Prevention Coalition, urging local organizations to take part in coordinated prevention efforts. Perkins said, “Some of the main issues in our community are methamphetamine, alcohol, vapes, and mental health issues,” and described the coalition as a vehicle to get stakeholders involved in prevention and education.
During public comment, Michelle Pridgen, who identified herself with the Independence Farmer’s Market/Grayson Land Care, updated the council on market programming. She noted Pepper Day and Cider Day events, said vendor interest in a Saturday market had been insufficient to continue, and announced plans for two winter markets (the Friday after Thanksgiving and the first weekend in December). Pridgen also said the market closed for a week because of a COVID outbreak earlier in the season and invited businesses to participate in an upcoming “business feature” Tuesday.
Council members thanked Ms. Pridgen for her efforts and for trying the Saturday-market experiment; no formal action was taken on the market items during the meeting.
