Independence presents September financial summary; business-license and DMV revenues noted as down year-to-year

Town Clerk Kim Farmer reported monthly revenues of $77,634.40 (including $22,133.44 in PPTRA) and packet documentation listed September general administration revenues of $72,072; staff attributed some year-to-date variances to timing of business-license receipts and a prepayment affecting water/sewer figures.
Town Clerk Kim Farmer presented the town’s financials, saying revenues “for the past month were $77,634.40 which included $22,133.44 for PPTRA for G & A.” She told council that water and sewer revenues were down compared with the prior period because a major customer (RNCC) made a prepayment the previous month.
A separate financial summary included in the meeting packet listed September general administration revenues at $72,072 and broke out other receipts: Meals Tax of $17,887 and DMV revenue of $23,767 for the quarter. Staff noted that business-license receipts were $41,000 lower than the same period last year and attributed that to timing differences in when businesses paid this year.
The packet also detailed several one-time or large payments during the month, including a police vehicle ($6,281), VOF grant disbursements for the Town Park project, and lead service-line grant reimbursements. Managers said overall expenses were down compared with the prior month, largely because of payroll timing and lower maintenance/service costs.
Council members did not take additional fiscal action at the meeting, but staff said they will continue processing grant reimbursement requests and monitoring revenue timing issues into the next quarter.
