Public forum: private school plan and call to update animal control ordinance

Calvin Shorter outlined plans to open a private school in Thomasville serving 5th through 9th grade boys who are, in his words, "lost in the system" because of exposure to gun violence and gangs; he said he previously ran a similar high school in Greensboro for seven years and might expand the program to 12th grade in the future.
Keith Berry urged the council to revisit the city’s Dangerous Animal Control Ordinance, saying Thomasville’s version is less detailed than ordinances in other jurisdictions and that an update could better protect future bite victims.
Neither matter resulted in immediate council action during the meeting, but both were recorded in the minutes as items presented during the public forum.
