Thomasville’s City Council voted to adopt the city’s copyrighted "Big Chair" design as the official city seal, resolving a discrepancy between the image used on letterhead and the smokestacks image that remained on some official documents.
City Manager Michael Brandt told council that older documentation suggested the official seal had been changed from the Smokestacks to the Big Chair sometime before 2003 but no confirming minutes could be found. Because the Big Chair has been used on letterhead and city vehicles, Brandt asked the council to readopt it as the official seal. Council Member Jane Murphy moved to adopt the copyrighted Big Chair as the city seal; Council Member Joe Leonard seconded and the motion passed unanimously 7‑0.
