Jackson Conservation Commission approves hydrology payment, expands river monitoring and logs other local updates

At the June 1 meeting the Jackson Conservation Commission approved payment of a $5,820 invoice from Headwaters Hydrology, to be paid from the Wentworth Wildcat Fund and then the commission’s budget if needed. The motion to pay was made by Ken Kimball and seconded by Brian Byrne and recorded as unanimous.
Commissioners reported that monitoring on Memorial Day added two new Wildcat River test locations (the Black Mountain Road/Dundee Road junction and the Wilson Road Bridge). They observed increased sediment entering the river from Great Brook and higher sediment levels downstream of the Moody Farm Bridge; monitoring is scheduled monthly through September. Members said they will follow up on site-disturbance and erosion-control measures in areas where construction activity was visible from NH Route 16B.
Other routine items: Prospect Farm contractor Mike Cormier began orchard pruning but has not yet submitted an invoice; the community garden irrigation system is malfunctioning and requires repair; a citizen offered free wood chips but members said chips are a low priority; and the Jackson Tennis Club plans to refurbish a small pump house on the Wildcat River’s east bank near Valley Cross Road. Commissioners also discussed gathering data for the Natural Resources Inventory and reaching out to the Jackson Historical Society to identify historic sites for inclusion; the Chamber of Commerce plans a fall 'Daffodil Daze' bulb-planting event along the riverwalk.
At about 6:27 p.m. the commission entered non-public session under RSA 91-A:3, II(e) to consider pending claims or litigation; the non-public minutes were sealed after the commission returned to public session and the meeting adjourned at about 6:43 p.m.
