Job and Family Services promotes job fair and warns SNAP recipients about phishing

A Job and Family Services representative (S4) told the Lake County Board of Commissioners that OhioMeans Jobs Lake County and the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities are partnering on a free inclusive job fair tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at Manor Paradigm, with more than 20 employers participating. S4 also announced a March 11 workshop (10 a.m.–noon) offering job-search and digital application assistance in the JFS building.
S4 warned commissioners about a recent phishing attempt targeting SNAP recipients and urged beneficiaries not to share their EBT card numbers or PINs. "To protect their benefits, they should never share their card number or their PIN unless they are contacting the EBT provider directly," S4 said and provided the customer-service number +1 (866) 386-3071.
During a brief exchange the chair asked whether that customer-service line would ever call beneficiaries proactively; S4 replied that customers should call the number directly and that county staff would not be calling people to threaten suspension of benefits. The representative said county JFS offices and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services had alerted local offices to the scam.
The announcements were presented during the departmental reports portion of the meeting and drew no public comment in the transcript.
