Council previews grant awards; formal vote to occur at 7:00 p.m. meeting

Town administrator Brian Wood presented recommendations for the town's grant and scholarship program. Staff suggested rolling the educational scholarship funds (applicants did not meet criteria) into the general grants pot, which would increase total grant dollars to about $15,000 and leave the town approximately $3,000 short of fully funding all applicants at an average request of $2,000.
The mayor proposed swapping one applicant ranking to prioritize Good Intentions Foundation (a Port Towns‑based program) based on direct local impact observed in prior years. Council members discussed rankings and recommended that, subject to final accounting, the town notify the proposed recipients: Karason, Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS), Eco City Farms, End Time Harvest Ministries, We Lead by Example, and Good Intentions Foundation. Wood said staff will send award notices and return for the required formal vote at the 7:00 p.m. council meeting because the grants are a financial decision.
Council also discussed the use of discretionary funds to support applicants who were not funded through the main grant pot. Staff will circulate the final rubric and award letters in advance of the formal vote.
