Board approves five-year maintenance contract for city backup generators

The De Pere Board of Public Works voted July 13 to award a five-year preventative maintenance contract for the city’s five backup generators to Total Energy Systems for a total 5‑year price of $29,525.
Tom recommended the award, saying the city’s previous vendor, Cummins, had experienced parts shortages during emergency calls and that Total Energy Systems had been faster to source parts and complete repairs. "Total Energy Systems is a little bit lower not by much but with the service quality that I get from them that's why I'm making the recommendation to go with them," Tom said.
Alderperson Hansen asked about pricing in years four and five; Tom said the vendor’s schedule includes load-bank tests every other year and that unitized line items in years four and five increase slightly. The presiding officer moved to approve the five-year contract, a motion seconded by Alderson Esercan; the voice vote carried.
The contract replaces a three-year option offered by the incumbent vendor and, according to staff, is intended to reduce repeated procurements by locking a price and coverage schedule for five years. The board did not set aside additional contingency funding during the motion; staff indicated the total $29,525 covers the contract as bid.
