Tamworth Select Board reviews draft 2026 budget, approves $436,630.10 accounts payable and several routine motions

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Tamworth Select Board reviewed the town’s draft 2026 budget, approved routine signature-file items including $436,630.10 in accounts payable, and adopted administrative updates intended to reduce operating costs.
Town Administrator Emily Nolan said the 2026 draft budget reflects about a 10% reduction from last year and that roughly $270,000 will roll over from 2025 plus approximately $130,000 from Transfer Station improvements — together about $400,000 available to the Unassigned Fund Balance. Nolan noted a projected savings of $73,000 attributable to a new health-insurance arrangement versus remaining with Health Trust and said employees pay 10% of insurance premiums.
The board approved accounts payable totaling $436,630.10 by roll call vote and approved several other routine items: minutes from Dec. 22 and Dec. 30, 2025; an Intent to Cut for Map 412 Lot 13 (Pease Hill Rd); a Report of Cut covering Map 413 Lots 2 & 4 and Map 420 Lot 41 totaling $5,556.48; an application for a raffle by the Chocorua Lake Conservancy (Feb. 7, 2026); and two abatements ($2,451 for Map 408 Lot 64 and $529 for Map 206 Lot 90).
Nolan also presented an investment-policy change to permit remote electronic deposit and to increase the Treasurer’s minimum deposit from $1,500 to $5,000; the board approved the amendment. Nolan said the Transfer Station will stop accepting brush as of April 1 (public notice to follow) and reported a Fidium quote that could save the town roughly $20 per month on bundled telecom services with a three-month promotional period.
Nolan reminded the board that the candidate filing period is Jan. 21–30, Town Election is March 10 and Town Meeting March 11. She also said June Aprille moved out of town and the board will need to appoint a replacement for a one-year term or determine whether to put a one-year term on the ballot.
