The Tamworth Select Board voted in nonpublic session Jan. 13 to offer BJ Pessia the Transfer Station Supervisor position and to increase pay and hours for an existing employee.
Select Board member Richard Doucette moved to offer the Transfer Station Supervisor position to BJ Pessia at $26 per hour, with an increase to $27 per hour following a positive 90‑day review and completion of required certifications; Select Board member Steven Schaeffer seconded. The board took a roll‑call vote: Richard Doucette yes, Karl Behr yes, Steven Schaeffer yes, Lianne Prentice abstained, Emery Roberts yes. The motion carried.
The action took place in Session #1, held under RSA 91‑A:3, II(b), the statute authorizing nonpublic deliberations for employee matters. Town Administrator Emily Nolan and Pessia were recorded as present for the interview portion of the session. The minutes state the board agreed to continue discussion at the end of the public meeting before concluding the nonpublic interview.
During the same session, the board considered compensation for an existing transfer-station employee identified in the minutes as Steven Brothers. Doucette moved — Schaeffer seconded — to raise Brothers’s rate to $24 per hour and permit up to 30 hours of work per week as needed, with scheduling to be determined by the supervisor. The roll call on that motion was recorded as Doucette yes, Behr yes, Schaeffer yes, Prentice yes, Roberts yes; the motion passed unanimously.
The minutes include only the motions, second, and roll‑call tallies; they do not provide additional terms of employment, start dates, or certification details beyond the 90‑day review condition for the supervisor position. The board recorded the session under the nonpublic personnel exemption; the minutes were signed and recorded by Town Administrator Emily Nolan and will be subject to RSA 91‑A:3(III) disclosure requirements.
The board’s personnel actions close the recorded business for Session #1. The minutes do not specify an effective date for either the hire offer or the pay change.
