Tamworth Select Board approves energy expendable trust, authorizes two EV chargers contingent on grant

The Tamworth Select Board voted Jan. 13 to place two energy-related warrant articles on the 2026 warrant, approving an Expendable Trust Fund for energy improvements and authorizing two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Town Office parking lot if grant funding is secured.
Gabrielle Watson, a member of the town Energy Committee, told the board the committee recommends two warrant articles: one to establish an expendable trust fund with the Select Board named as agents to expend, and a second to build two EV charging stations funded by a grant. Watson said the EV article is conditional: “if the grant is not received the article would be null and void.” The committee also plans to seek grant opportunities to cover the chargers and will not host an EV car expo this year.
Richard Doucette moved to place the expendable trust fund article on the warrant and Steven Schaeffer seconded; the board approved the motion by unanimous roll call vote. Doucette later moved to place the EV charging station article on the warrant; that motion passed on a 3–2 roll call (Doucette yes, Karl Behr yes, Schaeffer no, Lianne Prentice yes, Emery Roberts no).
Town Administrator Emily Nolan clarified the expendable trust fund is broader than the EV project and would remain on the warrant regardless of the EV article’s outcome; she said the formal trust language will be finalized at the upcoming budget hearing. The Energy Committee also reported modest changes in CPCNH rates and that municipal-metered accounts produced notable savings last year.
Next steps: the Select Board will finalize warrant language at the budget hearing and the two questions will appear on the town warrant for voter consideration at Town Meeting on March 11, 2026.
