Lincoln schools plan Discovery Center visit, Read-To-Write incentives and spring activities

Presenters and staff reviewed student events and community activities scheduled for the coming weeks.

Field visit and experiential learning: a presenter said the Montana Discovery Center will bring snowshoes and run three stations (snow science, survival and fire-safety) for first through third grades in the morning and additional grades in the afternoon. "They bring snow shoes, and they come to the school... they'll put on snowshoes through the park and, learn about snow science, snow survival, and fire," the presenter said.

Reading incentives and prizes: the PTSO will assist with Read-to-Write and Read-It incentives. The presenter explained students who log required reading minutes in February can earn tickets to Silverwood; concerns were raised about family access and travel costs limiting participation in past years.

Donations, food drive and kindness month: a presenter reported a $500 donation to the elementary ski trip and that a recent food drive performed better than in prior years; staff announced a 'kindness month' spirit week aimed at reducing bullying and boosting positive behavior. The school store is staffed Tuesdays and Thursdays going forward.

Graduation and literacy grant: a staff member confirmed 8th-grade graduation is set for May 31 (baccalaureate 12:30 p.m., graduation 1 p.m.) and reported attending a webinar about the 'Montana Reads' literacy grant; staff noted some classroom-technology concerns for program use.
