The Thomasville ABC Board on Feb. 24 reappointed Neal Grimes to a three-year term and confirmed the existing slate of officers, approved payrolls and a facility fixture purchase, and discussed a month-end inventory shortfall attributed to missing bottles of tequila.
Chairman Cran Plyler called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. at the store at 1144 Randolph Street. The board voted unanimously to approve the agenda, the conflict-of-interest statement, and the minutes of the Jan. 20, 2026 meeting (Motion: Don Clinard; Second: Cran Plyler; outcome: unanimous). Registration of attendees noted Chairman Cran Plyler, Secretary/Treasurer Neal Grimes, Vice-Chairman Don Clinard, store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe, and City Council Liaison Payton Williams.
Neal Grimes reported his reappointment by the city council for an additional three-year term, and the board reappointed the current officers (Motion: Don Clinard; Second: Neal Grimes; outcome: unanimous). The board also presented and approved payrolls for the periods ending Jan. 17, Feb. 1 and Feb. 14, and reviewed and accepted the January law enforcement report.
Financial reports showed January sales up 1.64% year-over-year while statewide sales rose 3.08%. The store's reported January average daily sales were $19,233; the year-to-date daily average was $19,567 over 178 sales days. Board members noted that total sales declines have reduced net profit.
General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe reported a cycle-count discrepancy of -$604.82 for the month. Lowe attributed the loss to ‘‘the loss’’ of seven bottles of higher-end tequila; one bottle was reconciled but the remainder appear to have been stolen. Lowe said she will hold an employee meeting to increase staff vigilance.
Lowe also reported that she and Ms. Shook plan to attend a state supervisors meeting in Concord March 15–18 to participate in discussions about reporting and remitting estimated monthly sales taxes.
Rick Turner proposed adding an additional shelf on several fixtures to display more product at an estimated cost of $9,500. The board approved the purchase (Motion: Neal Grimes; Second: Don Clinard; outcome: unanimous).
Because the Concord supervisors meeting falls on the board’s regular meeting date, members set the next meeting for Tuesday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m. The board adjourned by unanimous motion (Motion: Don Clinard; Second: Neal Grimes). Respectfully submitted minutes were signed by Cran Plyler.
