Fire Chief Jeff Ainsworth told the Brookhaven board that two crew members were in South Dakota for a final inspection on a new tower truck and, pending pump testing and certification by the Mississippi Rating Bureau, the truck should be delivered this month.
"Should be this month," Ainsworth said, adding a caveat that delivery depends on the inspection finding no major problems. He said the truck will be sent to Rosenbauer's Monticello facility for testing and certification before final delivery.
Ainsworth also described a pilot expansion of the department's EMS role. He said the department has added dispatch policies to attach a truck to vehicle wrecks with injuries and noted that EMS calls recently outpaced fire calls during a monthlong period. The board thanked the chief for pursuing the equipment and training upgrades.
Separately, the police chief reported on the Easter weekend: enforcement went smoothly but the department investigated a fatality early Saturday morning. The chief also confirmed the city has an existing curfew ordinance and described how the department sets and rotates roadblocks based on citizen complaints.
Next steps: the fire chief said staff would report back with delivery updates after certification; police will review curfew enforcement and roadblock patterns heading into summer.
