Resident raises pedestrian-safety, airport budget and warrant-article questions during Lancaster Select Board public comment

During public comment at the Nov. 17 Select Board meeting, resident and airport commissioner Rob Christie asked about downtown traffic monitoring and expressed concern about pedestrian safety near the library, including the lack of a crosswalk. He said police traffic-control efforts ran through the summer up to the fair and questioned whether the program would resume now that daylight hours are shorter.
Christie also said the airport commission had finalized its budget for the Nov. 18 meeting and asked whether Lancaster will continue to require the airport to appear as a warrant article. He said Lancaster is the only town in the agreement that presently treats its membership this way and noted the town's contribution has decreased from "$4,000+ a few years back to around $700-$800 now." Christie asked whether the airport manager can request inclusion on the warrant or whether 25 signatures would be required to petition for an article.
Selectman Leon Rideout responded that the practice historically has been to place the airport contribution as a warrant article and that staff can submit a request to the town manager to place an article in the warrant as in past years. Christie also suggested the board amend the Causeway Street motion to specify which GPS product was referenced, noting that onX Hunt labels a related route the "Lancaster Heritage Trail."
