Lancaster fire chief reports equipment status after live training; library flags fuel-delivery problems

Fire Chief Randy Flynn told the Lancaster Select Board on Nov. 17 that Fire & EMS year-to-date statistics and vehicle inspections were current and that all ambulances have been inspected and fitted with winter tires. He said ambulance A7 returned from Berlin City but will need to return Thursday for an alignment, one engine received new tires, and parts are still awaited to repair damage to the ladder truck. Chief Flynn reported the station water is back on and metered.
Chief Flynn described a recent live training burn as successful but said the department fielded a couple of citizen concerns; he said the department will hold a pre-event roundtable before future live burns to ensure community members and stakeholders are informed and on the same page.
Librarian Barbara Robarts told the board that the water department installed and connected a drainage pipe in the children's section and that the library ran out of heating fuel over the weekend. She said the trustees asked the board to contact the company chosen to supply heating fuel to emphasize the importance of timely deliveries, noting the service problem has recurred in the past. The trustees asked the board to weigh supplier reliability alongside price when selecting a vendor.
The Select Board heard these department updates as part of a broader meeting that also addressed procurement, tax-rate adoption and mapping for E911. The board did not take additional action on the fire-repair timeline or on fuel contracts at the Nov. 17 meeting; staff follow-up was requested.
