Beaufort County is hosting a guided birding walk at Widgeon Point Preserve from 8 to 9:30 a.m., the broadcast said. The walk will meet at Widgeon Point Preserve, 43 Okeechee Highway, and is expected to focus on multiple bird species that inhabit the preserve. Dogs on a leash are permitted; water activities are prohibited.
The trail is roughly three-quarters of a mile and includes a 6- to 8-foot-wide earthen loop with scenic views. The picnic pavilion includes three picnic tables available on a first-come, first-served basis for park visitors. The broadcast said the preserve covers 162 acres of mixed pine-hardwood forest, maritime forest, freshwater depression wetlands and salt marsh along the Broad River and that Beaufort County manages the property.
