Pocky Island Causeway to close overnight for culvert work, county says

Beaufort County announced that the Pocky Island Causeway will be closed to vehicle traffic overnight from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday to allow a contractor to set the center section of a new culvert. The county said the closure is weather dependent and that, if necessary to complete the work, a second overnight closure will begin Sunday at 9 p.m. and run to 6 a.m. Monday.
The county message, read by BCTV host Kyla Williams, said officials are coordinating with the contractor and emergency responders to minimize disruption and warned that traffic delays of up to about 15 minutes are possible during installation. Williams also conveyed the county's thanks to Pocky Island residents for their patience during the culvert replacement project.
What drivers should know: the work includes setting the first two sections of the culvert during daytime hours this week; the notice advised motorists to plan for short delays and follow posted detours if implemented.
