Klein said street-view photos attached to the submission show dense evergreen screening along Route 79 and that only a few small trees and an old cane will be removed for construction. "Most of the trees between here and back toward the street will remain," he said, and he described moving the parking closer to the building at zoning’s suggestion to preserve screening.
The project team showed photos taken from the street and the driveway approach; Klein said the new building will be substantially larger than the existing house and taller (he described the existing peak at about 14 feet and said the new peak would be close to 30 feet), so it may be visible through trees in winter. He also pointed to a small pond located roughly 15 feet south of the existing driveway and explained how parking and access relate to that feature.
Panel members focused on exterior materials and colors. Klein said siding will be fiber-cement with vertical battens and identified a Benjamin Moore paint described in the record as a light gray-green. The commission repeatedly requested a cohesive sample board showing siding, shingle options and window/door color so final material choices can be recorded in the file. "I can bring a piece of fiber cement that's painted with that color," Klein said, and agreed to provide window and trim samples.
A committee member moved to continue the application until Klein can present color combinations for the building materials, shingle samples and window examples; Klein seconded. The commission took a voice vote in favor and the motion passed.
Next steps: the applicant will provide physical samples of siding, shingle and trim/window colors for the commission to review; staff will coordinate any minor plan edits related to wetlands and follow up with the applicant before the next meeting.
