Hillsboro commissioners approve $210,137.21 in bills, designate banks, hire janitor and OK local gaming permit

The Hillsboro Board of City Commissioners on Jan. 5 unanimously approved payment of $210,137.21 in bills and December payroll, accepted prior meeting minutes and carried several routine motions affecting city banking, staffing and a local gaming event.
Commission President Levi Reese opened the meeting and commissioners voted to accept the Dec. 15, 2025 meeting minutes after a motion from Commissioner Geray and a second from Commissioner Myers. Later, Commissioner Evans moved and Commissioner Pohlkamp seconded a motion to pay the accounts presented; the motion carried with all voting yes. The accounts-payable listing presented totaled $210,137.21 and included a $88,275.13 invoice to Pipe Detectives among other vendor charges.
In old business, the commission accepted a letter of resignation from Alicia's Cleaning Service and approved a motion from Commissioner Pohlkamp (seconded by Commissioner Evans) to remove existing signatures at Goose River Bank and Dakota Heritage Bank for city accounts; roll call was unanimous. The commission then approved hiring Mary Remore as a city employee to continue janitorial work for the Main Street Community Center and City Hall at $200 per month, with additional compensation to be negotiated for other services; Commissioner Evans moved and Commissioner Pohlkamp seconded the hire motion, which passed.
Under new business, the commission formally designated Goose River Bank and Dakota Heritage Bank as the city's official depositories under North Dakota Century Code 21-04-13. Commissioner Pohlkamp moved the designation; Commissioner Evans seconded and the roll-call vote was unanimous. The board also approved a local gaming permit (bingo and raffle) for Burro Village's February event after a motion from Commissioner Evans and a second from Commissioner Geray; the permit passed on a unanimous roll call.
The meeting concluded with routine announcements about city office closures for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and winter parking and sidewalk reminders. The board adjourned at 8:08 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at the Main Street Community Center.
