The Village Board voted Aug. 11 to accept an amended early payout offer under the 3M Phase I settlement related to PFAS claims, choosing to receive a total of $1,103,588.47 in 2025 instead of staying on the longer scheduled payout track through 2033.
Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle summarized the village’s current and projected receipts: the village has already received $240,469.48 and is slated to receive $548,855.33 by September 2025; electing the early payout would provide an additional $314,263.66 for a 2025 total of $1,103,588.47 versus an estimated $1,202,816.88 over the long‑term payout schedule. VanDeWalle said the tradeoff is about $99,228.41 less in total dollars over time but provides immediate access to funds and reduces the risk that 3M could later file for bankruptcy and disrupt future payments.
The board approved the amendment unanimously, 7–0.
