The Village of Rothschild Board on July 14 approved the Village’s 2024 audit and heard a recommendation to consider raising water and sewer rates.
Scott Sternhagen of CLA presented the audit via Zoom and told the board he was "very pleased" with the Village’s financial results and strongly recommended the board consider a rate increase on water and sewer. Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle introduced the auditor to the board; Finance Director Melanie Wiskow noted the Village had implemented a rate increase in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The board voted to approve the 2024 Village audit on a motion by Trustee Paul Kennedy, seconded by Trustee Deb Ehster; the motion carried 6:0. The audit presentation highlighted that, overall, Village finances and controls were in good standing while recommending the board review utility rates to ensure long-term financial stability.
The audit approval places the report on record; the board did not adopt a new rate during the meeting. Sternhagen’s recommendation to consider a rate increase was recorded for future deliberation by the Village’s elected officials and staff.
