Rothschild waives $2,600 in fees to support Evergreen Elementary bike‑trail project

The Village of Rothschild on Aug. 11 approved a waiver of $2,600 in fees to assist the construction of a kid‑friendly off‑road bike trail at Evergreen Elementary, a project led by CWOCC in agreement with the D.C. Everest School District.
Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle summarized the request and introduced presenters Dan Borchardt and Rick Jarek, who said the project has been developed with material donations and volunteer labor. The waiver requested covered excavation permit fees associated with road ingress/egress off Trailwood Lane and asked for village assistance with placing a concrete approach. Presenters said a memorandum of understanding between CWOCC and the school district is in progress and that a proposed grand opening is scheduled for Aug. 21, 2025.
The waiver motion (moved by Paul Kennedy, seconded by Deb Ehster) passed with six votes in favor and one abstention (Jason Jablonski). The board recorded the motion as carried 6–1 (Jablonski abstained).
