Board approves districtwide math screener; state reimbursement to cover $51,170 contract

The USD 443 Board of Education voted to approve a districtwide contract to deploy an innovative math screener for students in grades 3 through 10.
Dr. Springston, curriculum and instruction (speaker 5), told the board the tool was piloted this year at one elementary, one middle and one high school and that staff want to scale the screener to all testing grades to provide four screening windows per year. He said the screener takes 10–20 minutes depending on grade level, yields results to staff within about 36 hours and will be embedded in professional learning community discussions so teachers can tailor instruction before the state assessment.
"What I'm presenting is to scale this up for all of our students' grades 3 through 10," Dr. Springston said. He recommended the board authorize a purchase order of $51,170 to Innovative Assessment Solutions, to be paid from the general fund, and to submit KSDE Form 240 to seek full reimbursement.
Tracy (speaker 2) moved to approve the contract; Aaron (speaker 3) seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
Board members noted the district is one of six pilot districts the state is supporting and emphasized the district expects the KSDE reimbursement to offset the cost. Staff said training for administration is brief (about 15 minutes) and the district will communicate implementation details with staff before the first screening window in October.
The board approved the contract; staff will proceed with purchase order issuance and the KSDE draw-down request.
