Resident Andrew Meyer asked the Town of Natick Board of Health on May 11 to support restoring a historic drinking fountain on the Natick Town Common.
Meyer told the board the fountain was purchased in 1911 after local women, led by Olive Augusta Cheney, raised funds through neighborhood groups. The fountain had been removed after being struck by a car, and Meyer and collaborator Mr. Vittoria are working with a local artist and the Select Board on a restoration and reinstallation plan.
The board offered guidance on infrastructure. Members said a sewer connection is not typically required but a drywell must be installed at minimum. The board asked the project team to submit a plan that shows the proposed fountain location, water connections, and the drywell for review by the Natick Health Department.
Next steps: Meyer and project partners were advised to provide the requested plan detail to the Health Department for technical review and permitting before installation.
