Committee forwards Rostrum Road purchase and North Widgeon due‑diligence authorization

Rostrum Road: Flake described an 11.66‑acre fee‑simple purchase adjacent to the Altamaha Heritage Preserve. The parcel includes a family cemetery and the proposed purchase price was $1,870,000. SCDNR (South Carolina Department of Natural Resources), which co‑owns Altamaha with the county, expressed interest in the parcel and staff said access to the cemetery would be preserved. The committee moved and forwarded the resolution to full council without objection.
North Widgeon: Staff requested authorization to spend $10,000 for appraisal and due diligence on North Widgeon (a parcel near existing Widgeon Point holdings). Committee members raised that there are three property owners and asked whether all owners had signed the application; staff said one owner (Daniel Henderson) had executed the application but would confirm signatures. The committee amended the motion to make due diligence contingent on confirmation of all owners’ signatures, approved the amendment, and then approved the due diligence as amended without objection.
Both items were forwarded to full council for final action. Staff noted available Green Space funds total roughly $5,700,000 and that Open Land Trust would assist or partner if additional funding were required.
